Sojourner Truth

(c. 1797 — November 26th, 1883)

Sojourner Truth (born Isabella Baumfree) was an American activist who worked to abolish slavery and to promote women’s suffrage. Truth was born into slavery but escaped to freedom with her infant daughter in1826. She also recovered her son from a slave owner, and became the first Black woman to win such a case against a white man.
