I have a very old movie-tie in edition of The Amityville Horror and it was printed back when it was able to put the whole ‘based on a true story’ claim on the cover.

Jay Anson was an American novelist and screenwriter. He wrote many documentary screenplays before working with George and Kathy Lutz to produce The Amityville Horror. The success of that book prompted him to write another 666, which had similar themes.
Jay Anson died at 58.
