Reinaldo Arenas

(July 16th, 1943 – December 7th, 1990)

Reinaldo Arenas was a Cuban poet, playwright, and novelist. He was a vocal dissident, a political prisoner, and a critic of Fidel Castro’s regime. He escaped to the United States in 1980, and was diagnosed with AIDS in 1987. In 1990, Arenas committed suicide.
