Susan Hill

Dame Susan Hill is a UK gothic novelist and publisher. Her best known works The Woman in Black, I’m the King of the Castle, and The Mist in the Mirror.

Hill was born in Scarborough in Yorkshire, and was educated in a convent school. She moved to Coventry as a teenager and had published her first novel by her first year of university.

Hill has written many novels and won several awards for her work. In the 1990s, Hill founded her own publishing company. In 2012, she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In 2020, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Both appointments were for her services to literature.
