Ryūnosuke Akutagawa (芥川 龍之介) was a very influential Japanese short story writer. His art name was Chōkōdō Shujin (澄江堂主人). He was a prolific writer, producing 150 short stories during his adult life. Many stories he wrote were adapted to film, including In a Bamboo Grove, which became the film Rashomon. He committed suicide at the age of 35.
